Sorry Stan,
But I just heard people talking here about the "hash" symbol.
I asked what a "hash" symbol is and I was told that's what they call the #
symbol in Britain.
So, I suppose what it's called depends on where you are. Similar to the
ageless pop/soda/tonic debate.
