(Yes, I did RTM [Chap 7]).

Trying to create a simple <$variable> using system-generated month and
year on an NT4.0 box with FM 5.5.

I tried copying from the supplied System Variable for
Current Date (Long) [<$monthnum> <$daynum> <$year> ]
then, when pasting into the User variable, and then deleting the
<$daynum>. The inserted result is

<@monthnum <$daynum

Note the absence of closing >s; this despite the closing brackets'
presence when the variable was saved.

Using FM's supplied Current Date gives me today's date (no surprise)
rather than the abbreviated <@... above, so FM /is/ picking up Sys
Info OK.

The information ( Month Year ) is to go into a running head on a
Master Page for an in-house newsletter.

I'm 99 percent certain I'm just overlooking something, but what? Any
help (sure, tell me where to go :-]) will be appreciated.

The address is katav -at- yahoo -dot- com

Thanks in advance.
