Hillary, the largest PostScript file we have (yet!) distilled was 69.2 MB.
The resulting (Acrobat 3.0) .pdf file was 2.4 MB. This was a manual of
about 500 pages with many graphics (over 150 - maybe up to 300; I try to
blot out the details...). If you use Acrobat 2.1, the .pdf files seem to
come out larger.
I don't know of any formula you could use to figure it out, but I would
just go ahead and try your file to see how big it comes out. In our
experience, the Distiller runs like a champ. It took maybe 20-30 minutes
to distill the file I mentioned above, and it ran very nicely in the
background while I was working on something else. (We use Win95 on a
Pentium 133 with 32 MB RAM.)
