"R> Hi all! I'm being given the opportunity to go to ISO 9000
"R> training here at
"R> NASA (in-house course, apparently 4 days long).

Jump on it!

"R> 1) what exactly _is_ ISO 9000

ISO 9000 is a method to organize a company. The aim is to document what should
be done and when.

"R> 2) how prevalent are these standards in documentation now?

ISO 9000 by itself has nothing to do with user instruction.

The automobile industry started long ago to certify their suppliers. These
days they expect their suppliers to be certified by certain independend bodies
- according to ISO 9000.

Greetings from Germany,
Alexander
