TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Web Techniques magazine recently had an article about how to implement both
client-side and server side imagemaps in the same HTML code (or something like
that, forgive me, I don't have it handy). Their web site is
www.webtechniques.com. Good magazine!

Subject: Imagemaps and URLs
Just a quick note about imagemaps -- if you want
people to see the URL as the cursor passes
over, provide a client-side imagemap.
If your users won't necessarily be able to deal with
a client-side map, augment it with a server-side map.
ALWAYS provide alternative navigation.
