I like seeing the URL, too, for those times when the site hasn't updated a link
properly. Then I can backstep through the parts of the URL until I get
something that works, and go hunting from there.
I don't like imagemaps, either. I think because designers (especially those
coming from a graphic design background) are so easily tempted into throwing
huge images at me. (I may be behind the times, using a 14.4 modem, but I
suspect there are still a lot more people browsing sites at that speed than at
28.8 or the T1 speeds that some web pages seem to assume everyone has.) If
there's a text link shown, fine, I'll take that link while the image downloads.
If not, I have to really want something from the page to make me sit through
the download. And that's a dangerous attitude for me to have if the page is
trying to sell me something ...

Of course, I generally dislike imagemaps.
