I'm not sure if I understand your problem. Are you saying you are unable to
open an Excel file? Open the Excel application and then click File > Open
and try to open the file that way.

Hi Bonnie,

I can open the Excel file that way. Here is my problem in more detail:

I used to be able to click the Excel spreadsheet filename and Excel would
open and automatically load the file. I could also click a desktop shortcut
to that spreadsheet and Excel would open and load the file. All of a sudden,
I click either the spreadsheet file name, or the desktop shortcut and Excel
opens, but I'm staring at a blank (gray) area where the spreadsheet should
be and the term "Ready" is displayed on the status bar at the bottom of the
window. The only way I can load the spreadsheet is to do the
File=>Open=>filename routine. What I am trying to discover is why I can't
just click the filename, or shortcut and have Excel open and automatically
load the file like it did up to last week.

To add to this: I have not installed any programs in the last month. I keep
my antivirus software (Norton) up-to-date and run scans religiously, and I'm
a stickler about backing up my files. This Excel problem has affected all my
spreadsheet files, even those that were archived onto CDs and DVDs.
Unfortunately, at 59 this is stressing the few functioning brain cells I
have left.
