Subject:Quark vs. FrameMaker ... today? From:"Geoff Brown" <geoff -dot- brown -at- earthlink -dot- net> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Wed, 26 Jun 2002 20:01:00 -0400
A couple of years ago a list member inquired about the relative merits of
Quark and FrameMaker for long documents. The archived responses were
unanimous and predictable ? Quark just wasn?t suited to do what FrameMaker
does with long docs. I?ve used both, and would tend to agree ? but it?s been
a couple of years since I?ve used FrameMaker and I?ve only used Quark to lay
out single pages or small docs.
A book publishing client wants to buy Quark and an Xtension called Autopage
that?s supposed to handle long docs smoothly. I know FrameMaker can do the
job he wants done, but he believes FrameMaker?s days are numbered and Quark
is the way to go ? and he likes the other things Quark has to offer.
Can anyone offer any wisdom? Has Quark made up the gap, and is FrameMaker
really soon to be obsolete?
