I have to agree with John Posada that what companies state in their ads or 
job decriptions to headhunters/agencies is just a shopping list for the 
"ideal" candidate.

I have a similar story to John's. I once interviewed for a contract position 
where it was emphasized that Unix knowledge would be important. I thought 
Unix were people who guarded harems. So, I brought along my Unix for Dummies 
book to the interviews and told them what I needed to know about Unix I 
could find in this book.

I got the contract and it turns out I didn't need to know diddly-squat about 
Unix (other than a few OS basics) over the life of the contract.
