There is more of a problem with this than just the qualification
issue and not getting enough interested inteviews.
One of the reasons i like being a contractor is I usualy get to learn
new stuff with each contract and infact, won't consider a contract if
I'm not going to learn something while I'm there. I may even take a
little lower rate so they will hire me and have partience with me
while I pick it up (maybe I'll cut my asking price by $5 per hour).
So, I look at the job specifications and I see I can do most of the
requirements...at least enough to get the job At the same time, I see
if there is something I'm weak in that I want to learn. (Maybe I
WANTED to learn ASP...right now, I'd like to find a contract that
wants XML experience).
Now...I at the contract and I'm working. They're learning stuff from
me and I'm producing. What?! There IS no ASP? All of a sudden, I'm
not as happy with the contract as I thought I'd be.
The job specifications isn't only there to qualify the applicants..it
should also qualify the company and position.
