Go with the writer making notes directly from the tape if you're positive
that the client doesn't want a transcript at all. (You might want to ask him.)

Raw transcripts--whether human- or software-generated and even if there's
only one speaker on a totally jargon-free topic--ALWAYS need proofreading.
Which means the business about training the software or the typist is a
non-issue--you still have to blue-pencil.

However, a transcript would probably be easier for your writer to work with,
so if your client wants one anyway, go ahead and do it first. Have the writer
do the proofing.
