The best overview and semi-technical site I've found for XML is http://xml.about.com/compute/xml/ . It'll probably tell you more than you
need to know.
Should it be part of your course? Probably yes, but only as an emerging or
possibly
important technology. A general understanding of tagging and document
organization
is more important, more useful, and easier to apply to whatever tool you're
working with.
