Dear TECHWR-Lrs:

I would like to expand on the XML thread in order to get a current
response to a question that's been bothering me. As a soon-to-be
Technical Communicator, I'm a bit hazy on what the advantages of XML are
in general, and specifically whether it is something that I should be
learning about now. Some of the professional TCs we've talked to have
mentioned that they've been told to "learn XML," or that they are
kicking around ideas about applying XML to legacy documents or using it
for context-sensitive help. What are the advantages and disadvantages of
using XML? Should this be part of our course?

Sincerely,
Ray Springer.
