As for Sean, I agree with what you said (for the most part...) But if the topic is
"Being Nice To Each Other", I think you may have managed to obey and disobey this
cardinal rule by posting an "offline response" to the list. I did it once (purely
by accident), and the villagers came to my belltower with flaming gasoline
torches. (Just a warning...) :)
If Mr. Green has given you permission to post this response to the list, that's
different, but in the interest of privacy, there was a reason you didn't
originally post to the list, what changed?
I am not (I repeat, I am *not*) slamming you Sean, I am just trying to understand
the justification here.

Lisa:

Originally, I replied to Mr. Green offline because I felt my message addressed his
shortsightedness in the usefullness of a listserv and needed to be addressed to
him personally (because the majority of the list may not be interested - he was
the audience - I sent it directly to him). My rationale for sending it to him
offline had nothing to do with privacy. I don't feel my remarks were of a nature
that required privacy--they were not meant as a slam--they were meant to
enlighten.

After seeing Eric's reply and some other responses on the list, I realized that an
interest existed. I also rethought the potential usefullnes of my communication
to others on the list. As you stated, there are some pretty ruthless people who
don't seem to care about "being nice" on the list. Those folks could use a
reminder, so I decided to pitch in my two-cents. The easy way to do that was
simply forward my message to Mr. Green, to the list. I don't feel it would have
been "mean" if I had initially sent it to the list, so I don't see the problem
with sending it a couple of hours later.

However, I appreciate your warning about the practice and I will refrain from
doing it in the future. If the villagers have defined a social more, far be it
from me to break it. :-)
