Since we are documenting Windows applications it would seem reasonable to be
as consistent as possible with both the Windows interface and the largest
group of documentation for that interface in existence, Microsoft's. As a
result we use it on all of our projects and suggest it to all our clients as
a means of making their documentation and help consistent, both internally
and with the help systems that come with Windows and Microsoft Office.
It reduces arguments over style issues and has been a time/life saver on
multi-author projects. The help file version is especially effective for
quick references. You could write your own, but in this case I don't think
reinventing the wheel is cost effective.
