I'd like to add Long Island, New York.
We're a bedroom community of New York City, but we have some major
software companies out here
(Computer Associates, Cheyenne, etc) as well as a huge (but slowly
eroding) base of defense companies from the 80's. As a person in my 20's
I find it less than the most satisfying place to live, but if you're
interested in starting a family, and want the stability of suburbia,
Long Island should be on your list.
