Regarding good job markets for technical writers, I was surprised that
no one so far has mentioned Atlanta (Hot-lanta!). Maybe there aren't a
lot of subscribers from Atlanta.
In particular, companies are dying for permanent technical writers,
because right now in Atlanta everyone wants to contract.
