Subject:Re: Results of Trademark Survey From:"Melinda M. Carr" <melindac -at- CAPSOFT -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 28 Apr 1997 15:35:52 -0700
Someone suggested I post a summary of the responses I received when I
asked how you handle other companies' trademarks in your manuals. It
seems about 60 percent of the 14 respondents listed the owners of each
trademark on the inside title page or similar page. The other 40 percent
used a general statement something like ours. ("All other brand or
product names are trademarks or registered trademarks of their
respective companies.") Most did not include the symbols in running
text.
We decided that since there was not an overwhelming vote for lists, we
would stick with our general statement, which has already been approved
by the powers that be.
We were concerned about maintaing an accurate list of who owns which
trademark. If Microsoft were purchased, I'm pretty sure we'd hear about
it, but that's not necessarily the case with some small companies.
Thanks to Stacey Roberts, Jennifer Blair, Jim Purcell, Barb Philbrick,
Marj Hermason, Bill Sullivan, John Wilcox, Suzanne Lee, Sue Heim, Sella
Rush, Daren Deadmond, Elna Tymes, Wayne Douglass, and Dan Wise for
responding. (I apologize in advance for missing anyone who might reply
to the list Monday. I'm on digest, so I won't see it until tomorro
morning.)
