I started using MS Publisher with much skepticism. I didn't want to
sink $300 or more into a program I'd only be using at home, but I
didn't want something half-baked, either. I was concerned that a
lower-priced program would be buggy and that I'd have to trick it
into doing the things I wanted to do.

Well, it certainly isn't buggy, and basically it does what I want it
to without a lot of work-arounds. (I guess I DO trick Publisher a
little, but I'm sort of a feral computer user anyway and I ALWAYS
find myself trying to out-think my software, so that's probably just
me.)

My point is that Publisher costs what, about $100 while other DTP
tools are MUCH more. I don't think Publisher is a high-end tool, but
it's not trying to be and it doesn't sport a high-end price tag. It
does what it does well, and it's worth its price.

I HATE its wizards, though, and all the clip art looks alike, so I
don't use that stuff. You might be interested to know that there's a
support newsgroup for Publisher. I don't know its name and can't get
to it at the moment, but the news server that carries it is
msnews.microsoft.com .
