Request for Articles for IEEE

My fellow technical editors,

I am looking for technical editors, multimedia specialists, and graphic 
artists who would be willing to write articles for an upcoming special 
issue on "Technical Editing" for the IEEE Transactions for Professional 
Communication. I have persuaded the editor of this journal that a special 
issue on technical editing is sorely needed, given the changing nature of 
editing today. He agreed and said "You do it." 

I am looking for the following types of articles (though I am always 
willing to consider other ideas):

*Principles of editing that will stay the same
*Strategies for on-line editing (line editing and global editing)
*Editing Multimedia and on-line documentation
*Editing Hypertext and Internet Web Pages
*Editing Page Layout and Graphic Design
*Editing International Documentation
*Editing Graphics, Photographs, and Charts
*The Basics of Freelance Editing (contracts, taxes, fees)
*Teaching Editing at the University (?)

I encourage you to take advantage of this rare opportunity to improve the 
scholarship in our field while sharing your expertise in these areas. Few 
articles are printed on technical editing each year (mainly because 
technical editors are editing). Here is our opportunity to get our 
message out. 

Right now, IÕm way ahead of deadline. So, I would be willing to work 
closely with writers on their articles. The final draft of the articles 
will be due on June 1, 1997.

This is the official Call for Proposals that appeared in the latest IEEE:

The IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication is requesting 
proposals for a special issue on ÒTechnical EditingÓ to be published in 
Fall 1997. We are looking specifically for articles that address the 
changing nature of technical editing brought on by internet resources, 
multi-media, desktop publishing, improved graphic design capabilities, 
international audiences, and the rise in freelance editing. Articles 
addressing the teaching of technical editing in the college classroom or 
the workplace will also be seriously considered. Also, we hope to include 
an article on ethics that specifically discusses editorsÕ ethical 
responsibilities and ethical decisions they must make. Inquiries about 
possible subjects should be addressed to the guest editor, Dr. Richard D.

Proposals for articles will be accepted through April 15, 1997; however, 
those interested in submitting an article for this special issue are
