My husband and I are both entry-level technical writers in the Chicago area,
and I would say that the the STC Survey is pretty accurate.
In terms of the job situation, I did my internship for the company that
hired me, so I didn't have to really search for a job. My husband graduated
last May and his friend mentioned that his company was looking for technical
writers, but hadn't posted the job yet. He was interviewed and hired by the
company within a week. We were pretty lucky and didn't have to do any real
job searching. But I would check the Trib and keep in touch with your
network for any job openings. Good luck!
