Hi Yvonne --

Wouldn't it be great if we could specify what we really want in an
employee?
Clarity
Flexibility
Ingenuity
Curiosity
Responsibility
A sense of humor

Did I miss any . . . ?

Unfortunately, human resources gets a little nervous about ads like that.

I wish I could tell you why a degree has become such an important artifact.
Maybe it's the tendency of corporate culture to want to label all its
components trickling down to the rest of us.

It is far more important to me, as an employer, that the person has a sense
of what it is like to extract information and get it on paper (or into the
computer, etc.). I am biased towards working writers especially
journalists, degree or not.
