Moshe,
Your project sounds nightmarish. I don't think you should feel obligated to
stick with it. If you've reached the point where you don't feel able to give
your best -- and I'm not sure who could in such a situation -- the professional,
ethical course of action is to resign. It may feel bad not to finish what you
started, but there's nothing wrong with telling this client, "Your requirements
have changed; I don't think I'm the right person for the job anymore." If you
want to exit with style and grace, do something to help with the transition
(e.g., give notice, offer to help find another writer).
