These are all pretty much covered by the 8-bit set we have now. The
problem is, the defined "ASCII standard" only covers 7-bit characters.
The last bit's 128 additional characters are pretty much up for grabs.

The examples I cited (224 to 239) are where QEdit places the Greek
characters on a system set up for US English, codepage 437 -- your
mileage may vary.

In fact, FidoNet still *officially* only supports 7-bit ASCII; use of
"extended ASCII" or "upper characters" is *generally* recommended
against (unless the moderator of a particular echo deems it
appropriate) specifically for the purpose of maintaining maximum
legibility and compatibility between old and new systems world-wide.
Heck, you can still get a Fido mailer and mail-tosser for the old
Commodore 64 BBSs... and official Fido policy holds that compatibility
should be maintained. Netscape and MS could take lessons!

Your friend and mine,
Matt
