The drawback of the non-paid portion of her work should be more than
compensated for by the names she'll be able to drop on her resume, and the
samples that (presumably) she'll be able to use for her portfolio. The
one-on-one nature of the job will also make a big difference. She'll
be working with a contractor, also a big plus (it's harder to be a
contractor, and she'll get to see why, without taking the chances,
herself). You should make a big effort to get her well-connected in the
field, since that, in my own short experience, is one of the most
important things to do to find future work.
