When I originally posted TIME magazine's THE MOST UNKINDEST CUT
quote, I did not suspect how many people would follow up with
their own thoughts and observations.  I learned a lot.  First of
all, I learned that this is a quote from Shakespeare's JULIUS CEASAR.
Second, I learned that some people approve of using allusions in
which the quoted phrase is ungrammatical, while others (myself
included) like our allusions straight up and error-free.  But
the most important thing I learned is the increasingly difficult
situation faced by editors for peridocials, newspapers, and broadcast
news.  Staffing is being reduced, while deadlines are being tightened.
So even though more errors are creeping into the work, this is not
the fault of the harried, overstretched workers.  To you who edit for
a living, Godspeed -- you'll need it!  We should all give you a break.
