Has anyone else heard of the Compuserve decision to require a license
to use GIF graphic format?
** I understand it has little to do with consumers. You can still
enjoy your GIF files. In fact, Compuserve is on the consumer's side.
But the GIF format is based on a format developed by another company,
and that company started grumbling to Compuserve. Companies that market
programs creating GIF-format files may have to pay some kind of royalty.
Probably no charge that will trickle down to the level of the
individual home GIF-ogler's wallet.
