Hi,
Reasons for an editor using Internet:
1. Access to TECHWHIRL and other writing-related newgroups.
2. Access to various resources through gopher or the WWW.
3. Availability of on-line references: dictionary, thesaurus,
periodic elements, or whatever.
4. Our department is getting ready to issue a style guide. Once
the hardcopy goes to printing, we're going to start working
on a hyptertext version to put out on the company gopher.
Hope this helps. I've certainly found the Internet helpful in
my job as technical editor. Another thing I could have mentioned
(since I work as a government contractor) is being able to access
the DOE Orders, CFRs, OSHA regs, etc.
I didn't see the orginal post, so good luck w/ whatever it is
you're after.
