Subject:Writing and criticism; was: pulling my hair out From:Karla McMaster <mcmaster%pcmail -dot- cti-pet -dot- com -at- CTI-PET -dot- COM> Date:Fri, 12 Aug 1994 12:59:41 EST
Shelly...At least he asks your help--and presumably more than once! That's a
good sign!
I know it took me (I hate to admit it) quite awhile before I could take editing
of my own work very well. And I still find that my good grace sometimes depends
on the good grace of the editor.
I think that quite a bit of the actual job of being an editor, depending on
where you work, is being socially skilled at maintaining a cooperative (as
opposed to adversarial) relationship with the writer. Perhaps that's why I've
always tended toward writing, instead--in some ways it's easier! The only ego I
have to deal with is my own!
Happy Friday...
