Teresa-

Don't knock basic writing and literature courses. Technical writers must first
learn how to communicate. Learning how to write, and learning from the masters
of writing, are important.

I have a suggestion for at least exposing you and your fellow students to some
of the technical stuff that's been discussed on this list (and other stuff that
hasn't). How about a seminar course in which guest speakers can talk about the
latest issues in technical communication? I don't know where you're located,
but there might be a chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC)
near the school that could provide some speakers.
