Not all self-employed individuals who receive 1099 forms are required to make estimated tax payments. Some are, some aren't.

If you have 1099 income, you have to pay estimated taxes quarterly.
It's not complicated.

One company I contracted for required an EIN and documentation that I had a sole proprietorship registered with that number. That had zero impact on my taxes. I was still self-employed and it was 1099 income.
