I think the Surface is a much better device than an iPad for doing common
work. At least Surface runs a full version of Windows and all the Microsoft
apps. I can't vouch for its battery life, however. Though one of my
commuting buddies, and a PM at work, both swear by their Surface tablets
for everything they do.
A common thought among the old Tablet PC crowd is that tablets are far more
inviting in meetings, because they don't present a barrier, as an engaged
laptop screen would. And Microsoft's handwriting recognition with a stylus
has historically been excellent.
