Place not your faith in princes. Or anything that involves lawyers who charge by the hour. Or anything.
I don't care if you lodge class actions suits against every corporation in the world every other day for the next 17 years. Disasters like this WILL happen again. There WILL be more oil rig blowups, tanker crackups, and operator f**kups. Human nature dictates it. As long as there is one man alive who thinks he can somehow get richer by cutting corners, violating safety regulations, cheapening materials, forging documents, or in any other way not doing things right, there will be at least one more catastrophe of this kind. THERE IS NO WAY TO PREVENT THESE THINGS. They happen because someone made a terrible mistake, or was lazy, or made a self-serving decision and is deficient in that part the brain that makes people care about what happens to others. No law, no legal action of any kind, can ever *prevent* anything. We still have murders despite the fact there have been laws against murder since the day when the cold chisel was the state of
the art in writing implements. In the Middle Ages it was legal to have people burned alive for trying to cheat on their taxes, and people still did it. There will always be someone who thinks he's smart enough to cheat and not get caught. As long as humans are human, this kind of thing will happen again.

No. What is required is the prospect of massive fines, government
regulators ordering entire corporate operations shut down while every
installation is checked to verify that any single violation is not
endemic and homicide charges and prison time for executives who
knowingly fail to ensure regulatory compliance. In the current
situation, no book will be ever be as persuasive as damage assessments
equal to half the value of the corporation's assets, a world-wide
shutdown of very drilling rig it has for safety checks, and some senior
executives spending time behind bars if it is found that workers died
and damages occurred because any safety regs and/or procedures were
circumvented.

Gawande's "Checklist Manifesto" makes this point brilliantly. The
question is, could the book inspire executive management to establish
the right procedures to prevent emergencies?
