If the audience is paying attention to the swearing, then they are no longer listening.

Swearing distracts the audience, allowing those who don't mind it to laugh, and allowing those who DO mind it to make it the subject of a new conversation instead of the one you were trying to have before you swore.

I've lost more than one argument with my wife that way:)

Profanity and good manners are both relative. If profanity in the office
bothers someone, then everyone should cheerfully avoid it.
