I have personal views on religion, but no comments based on them to offer here.

Even if said complaints are resolved in the company's favor, they cost money. And they don't do anything to enhance the future employment prospects of anyone involved, including the manager the individuals report to. Especially not the manager the individuals report to

A manager's responsibility is to maintain a workplace environment where employees interact without rancor. The measures necessary to ensure this may sometimes result in a somewhat less vibrant workplace, but that's a trade-off that sometimes needs to be made if the people involved are less mature than one would wish them to be.
