Back in the 80s I was typing a college dissertation on a new-fangled electric typwriter that stored text line by line before spitting it out onscreen. It was a friend's typerwriter, I was sitting at a dining table in his house. A learned friend of his came by and watched as I typed. "Is your text justified?" he asked me. I proceeded to launch into a nervous defense of my argument. Of course he meant the printout. I'd never heard the term applied to print before.
I wrote my master's thesis with a fountain pen in a series of spiral-bound copybooks. Kinda proud of that. I gave it to a bureau to type up and submitted the finished product without even opening the covers to check there was ink on the pages. Such innocence. How I got into software documentation, I don't know...
