In most cases, not getting a prompt response to inquiries
is not an excuse for not getting the work done (we don't
give extra credit for "trying"). If someone a writer needs
something from doesn't respond to email or voicemail,
the next step is to relentlessly hunt that person down and
torment him/her until the anguished sound of someone
crying "uncle, here's your information/review/whatever"
is heard and you've added one more person to your list
of people who run for cover at the sight of an approaching
tech writer. If this sort of tactic is regularly required in
your working environment, remote working is probably
not a very viable option.
