TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
However, by word and deed, the STC has shown it is disinterested in the
grassroots chapters, doubly disinterested in the smaller ones. Methinks
you're tugging on Superman's cape, spitting into the wind, and pulling
the mask of the ol' Lone Ranger ....
I signed on for one sig, sent an email asking to join their list, and
... crickets. I might have signed up for an inactive sig; I wish they
posted activity fort those. The grassroots chapter I signed up for is
small, but there's an active corps at the core.
Cheers.

Great ideas, Bill. I think you're right -- we are all hungry for
face-to-face interaction with people whose names we know (or can learn).
This is the greatest possible contrast to the "personalized" digital
crap that bombards us the rest of our lives.
You know, when I renewed my membership, I dropped all but one SIG
because they were getting too expensive for me. If other people made a
similar decision, I'd say that's a bit counterproductive for the SIGs .
