This is *so* much better -- more civilized, more satisfying, less
stressful -- than fighting it out over union rules or wage-hour laws.
"Humans behaving humanly," as some TV commercial puts it. 

If my supervisor (and for that matter, my employer) and I didn't respect
each other and didn't "both make an effort" to be fair, I'd start
looking for alternatives. Life's too short to spend a third of it being
an adversary or victim.
