Sorry to revive this when it was already delayed ... this delay is my fault; I hadn't read the list for awhile.

I just wanted to add that when I'm working with this sort of situation, I often find a diagram is worth a thousand words. Draw a clear picture of the stuff you're talking about, then clearly label it with the terms you've decided to use for this bit of the discussion.
