Thank you. I was, in fact, specifically answering the question posed about
work in the Bay Area (which I assumed, as probably the OP did, meant the SF
Bay Area/Silicon Valley).

Telecommute options vary regionally-- I myself work in California for a
telecommute-friendly company in Michigan. Here in the Bay Area for hardware
writers, it is *very* difficult to convince the company to let you work
remotely. At best, I've seen hardware writers allowed to work off-site one
day a week or on an emergency basis only.
