Re: Any comments on Word 2007? (Take II)
Barry Campbell noted: <<there looks to be much better XML support
than in Word 2003, though that is a feature that is probably of most
interest to developers, and not most tech writers, at this time.>>
It's not really XML if it doesn't come with and use a DTD. Does Word
2007 actually make you adhere to a DTD, and can it validate a
document against a DTD? If so, then it's a useful XML implementation.
If Word 2007 only saves a document using HTML tags, it's not really
XML other than in the loosest possible sense.
Nope, Word 2007 has not suddenly turned into an XML authoring
platform, and I frankly don't expect that ever to happen, given the
assumptions they're clearly making about who uses their program and
what they use it for.
What I meant by "better XML support" is that it looks like it would be
easier to make Word 2007 work with other tools that use XML, which is
why I noted "better XML support... probably of most interest to
developers."
Again, I've had this thing running for a couple of weeks now -- I
could be wrong, but the XML features look geared to interoperability
and not standalone document production and formatting.
