Sadly, I jest not. IMLE, consultants always have a solid, professional,
*certified* reason for moving their goalposts -- as opposed to
employees, who are reasonably expected to do stuff when they say they're
going to do it.

I'm sure your Gantt charts have a well-controlled revision history, but
people tend to look at the *current* revision -- and it's the *previous*
revision that shows whether stuff is getting done on time.

I am fascinated that your milestones and goalposts are the "most-revised
documents in the entire collection." This beings us back to our thread:
A company can measure not only the achievement of schedules, but also
the extent to which previously identified variables are affecting the
achievement of schedules.

If I were constantly revising my milestones and goalposts, I guess I'd
worry that (a) I wasn't achieving my schedule, and (b) maybe I didn't
identify those variables very well at the start.

Around here, our most-revised documents are not Gantt charts, but rather
manufacturing work instructions, which can always be tweaked for
improvement. So I make sure everyone's got access to the latest Device
Master Record, and not to the previous one! Some folks call that "being
proactive," but heck, I just call it tech writing.
