Yes, I've been asked to document an application to which I didn't have
access. Not only that:
1. I wasn't allowed to speak to the developers, neither in person or on the
phone.
2. The majority of the developers were in Quebec (and I in the U.S.).
3. All the in-house developers and project managers spent most of their
time in Mexico (on another rollout of the same application).
4. As a contract writer, I wasn't allowed to access to the network, the
VPN, or even an in-house phone. I had to bring my own laptop to work but
couldn't connect to the corporate LAN.
5. When I finally insisted that they send me a copy of the progress-to-date
on the application (in French, English, or Spanish) they told me they'd send
me a copy of the application, but I wouldn't be able to access the building
(to use someone else's computer) because of a plant shutdown over Christmas.
And this remains is one of the largest consumer product companies in the
world.
