One illustration type I can think of is a diagram showing the database and
the names of the tables within it. You can further drill down into the
field names for those tables. Sort of like an org chart for the database.

This type of illustration is actually very helpful to users wanting to
visualize how to write a SQL query:

SELECT (field_name) from (table_name) WHERE blah... etc.

When the user sees how the database is organized - what the table names
are, and what tables contain what fields, it makes query writing much
easier.

You'll probably find some good example illustrations in basic SQL or SQL
for dummies-type books.
