I have observed over the years that there can be a cultural element in
the fondness for "ten dollar words" and complex sentence
structures...but not always. Be that as it may, what someone writes in
a mail list post is not necessarily an indicator of what they write in
a technical manual.

That said, let us suppose we are in an office with one writer who has
a such a fondness and another who values public sarcasm as an
operating motif.

Which would you more willingly invite to a leisurely lunch?
