Automatic figure and table numbers in Word 2000

Hello, how do you create a style with automated
numbers in the format "Figure 1-1, Figure 1-2..." in
Word? We can do that in FrameMaker, can we in Word
2000? 

I have a workaround which simply increments the
number: "1    ", "2   ", and so on.

I have transferred a FrameMaker document into Word
using a very challenged template. 

Some time ago someone had asked for a Word template.
If anyone responded, where can I find a copy? I
searched the Microsoft style, but couldn't find one.
HELP!
