Yeah, earning money is important and equally important is improving
your capacity to earn money. Among other things, choosing a correct
place to work where you have a lot of opportunity to add to your
skills and experience helps increasing your earning capacity. Here is
an example to clarify: If you move from your present company (where
you are a lone writer) in another two years, your market value at that
time would be X. If, instead, you join a bigger company (read better
processes, latest tools, mentoring by seniors, and a lot of learning)
now and move from there in another two years, your market value at
that time would be much more than X, although you may earn the same
sum during these two years.

The decision to shift involves a lot of other factors apart from money
and these factors differ from person to person. I would suggest you to
quantify influencing factors in your specific situation based on what
you want to achieve in your career. Probably, preparing a Pugh matrix
to quantitatively evaluate the options will help a lot.
