If I'd written the place off I'd have been gone by now. Yes, things are getting better, slowly, but my daily drive still takes me through a number of industrial complexes that look like unused Hollywood sets.

But even during the worst of the downturn, I avoided those particular stretches of freeway. :)

Ghost town? I know that there's been a downturn and jobs aren't as plentiful as they were five years ago, but I'd hardly call this place a ghost town! Have you been on Hwy 87 (or 101 between San Mateo and San Jose) lately?

I'm seeing more jobs being advertised every day, and companies that have had hiring freezes are beginning to staff up again. Don't write this place off yet!
