My first job in which the actual *title* was "technical writer"
was for a company that decided to hire engineers and turn
them into technical writers because they had gone through
a series of experiences with writers with English and/or
Journalism backgrounds who had been unable to "get" the
technology behind their products. But prior to that I had
spent most of my time as an engineer in test, where you
spend most of your time generating plans, procedures and
reports anyway.
